Ways to Improve Your Child’s Smile

Part of being a good parent is making sure your children have what they need. Regular dental care is a must for everyone, not just kids. Being sure they learn proper oral care young will help their teeth last a lifetime. Here are some simple tips you can do at home to help improve your child’s smile!

1. Make Regular Dental Appointments

Making bi-annual appointments for your child’s teeth is hands-down one of the most important things you can do for your child’s teeth. Dentists remove build-up accumulated over the past 6 months, that brushing and flossing won’t remove. But the appointments are just for cleaning! Its a great time for your dentist to see if any issues are developing and for you to ask questions. Catching dental issues is kep to good oral health!

2. Use Proper Brushing Techniques

There is a reason brushing teeth properly is so important! If your child doesn’t know how to brush properly it can lead to build-up and accumulation of cavity causing bacteria and plaque. Its a simple and effective way to make sure your child’s dental health is optimal.

3. Floss Everyday

Flossing everyday can be a forgotten habit unless its made just that. A habit! Flossing is just as important as brushing when it comes to removing bacteria and plaque from in between teeth where brushing can’t reach. And just like brushing your teeth its  a waste of time unless you use the proper technique. Be sure to have your ask about both at your child’s next dental visit. Brushing alone won’t remove bacteria and plaque from teeth so be sure flossing with the right technique becomes a regular habit.

4. Eat a Healthy Diet

Your child’s diet is just as important as the tips above for proper oral health. Avoiding sugary and junk foods that have a negative impact on your child’s health and teeth. Avoiding sticky and starchy foods prevents bacteria growth and tooth decay. They should also avoid sticky, starchy snacks. These foods can get stuck to teeth and provide a breeding ground for bacteria. Just as important as avoiding bad food, eating goods foods is important too. Dairy products to help with bone development and protect teeth from decay and cavities is important too!

These are just a few of the ways you can improve your child’s smile! Be sure to schedule your bi-annual dental appointments!
