First Visit

Your child’s first visit is about his or her comfort, happiness, and health. We look forward to welcoming you!

You will find our office to be a pleasant and caring environment. We know a positive experience can set the tone for your youngster’s future dental health. That is why our office has been designed to be “kid friendly.”

Even more important, our pediatric dentists and professional staff have dedicated their careers to helping children. We establish trust with your son or daughter by creating a safe and happy place to be. The latest in dental technology is combined with genuine compassion and concern.

You will accompany your child on the first preventive visit. You can make a major difference in your little one’s dental health by scheduling the first visit by age one, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

We communicate to your child in a positive manner. We don’t use the words “shot, needle, afraid, hurt, or pain” and ask that you do the same. We can easily transfer our own dental fears to our child without realizing it. It is best to say “the dentist is going to count your teeth. The dentists and their helpers are very friendly and will take good care of your smile. It will be fun.”

The first visit is comprised of a review of your child’s medical and dental history, a comprehensive examination, evaluation of the bite and teeth development, teeth cleaning, fluoride treatment, and recommended X-rays. The dentist will discuss all findings and recommendations, as well as answer all your questions.

It is important for the first visit to be as pleasant as possible. If your child is reluctant about either the cleaning or X-rays, we may postpone that part of the appointment. Sometimes only the examination is accomplished on the very little ones. We want your child to leave feeling successful!

Bring your smile, but also remember to bring these to your child’s first appointment:

  • Your completed patient health history form
  • Your insurance card or complete insurance information

Regular checkups are an important part of maintaining a healthy smile!

The American Dental Association recommends that children visit the dentist every six months for regular checkups and routine teeth cleanings to keep their teeth and gums healthy.

We understand your family has a busy schedule, so when you’re preparing for a dental visit, please remember an appointment can last between 30 and 60 minutes. We do our very best to run on time!
