Encouraging Healthy Drinks For Kids

A recent report just out by Healthy Eating Research (HER) recommends healthy drinks for kids. Leading health organizations have partnered in a new study with Healthy Eating Research that encourages healthy drinks for kids. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association partnered with Healthy Eating Research (HER) to recommend breast milk, infant formula, water and plain milk for babies and kids up to the age of 5.

A New Study

Dated September of this year (2019), the guidelines are part of a new set of comprehensive beverage recommendations for children, outlined by age (birth through age 5). They are cautioning against the use of flavored milks, drinks sweetened with sugar, as well as low calorie drinks. Drinks marketed towards young children that may contain an over abundance of sugars, caffeine, or plant based milks with inappropriate nutritional values are also to be avoided.

Why Healthy Drinks for Kids?

Because beverages play a large part in nutrition for children of those ages, it is recommended to be conscious of calories and nutritional consumption of said beverages. The study was conducted by the Healthy Eating Research (HER) a leading nutrition research organization, and with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), in partnership with  Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD),American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American Heart Association (AHA).
