Top 4 Ways To Protect Your Teeth This 4th of July Weekend
We love the 4th of July—barbecues, fireworks and gatherings with good friends and family—and we want to make sure your teeth have a great Fourth, too. Here are four quick tips on how you can have fun and still take good care of your teeth during your 4th of July outing.
1. Drink plenty of water. One of the easiest ways to take care of your mouth is to keep it moist. A dry mouth invites all kind of unpleasantness, like cracked skin and bad breath. Stay hydrated and avoid all that.
2. Carry a toothpick. Or a small carton of dental floss. It’s better (and if you can sneak off for a minute, more attractive) than picking corn-on-the-cob and rib remnants out of your teeth all day.
3. Take it easy on the brews. For a lot of people, beers and barbecue are synonymous. Just don’t overdo it. Alcohol can give you dry mouth, and for the reasons listed in item No. 1, you definitely don’t want that. Enjoy a beer or two, but think about replacing subsequent drinks with something like sparkling water.
4. Know your tooth-friendly foods. When you head for the picnic table, try foods like chicken, which can help re-enamelize your teeth, and firm foods like apples or pears, which hold a lot of water (again, see item No. 1!).
Have a Happy 4th of July, everyone!
