What should I do if my child has a broken, knocked out or chipped tooth?

We will want to examine your child’s mouth. Please contact us immediately (925) 947-1188.

If your child is in pain, you may want to give an over-the-counter pain reliever, applying a cold compress will help prevent swelling and inflammation. Be sure to have them rinse their mouth out after every meal with warm salt water.

If possible, keep any part of the tooth that has been broken off. If the tooth has been completely knocked out of the mouth, do not wipe or clean the tooth and try to handle it as little as possible. Store the tooth in water or milk until we are able to get you in for an appointment. It may be possible for the tooth to be placed back into your child’s mouth. Based off our evaluation we will be able to explain the best treatment plan.
